Introducing Resin: AI-native PCB design in the browser
Resin turns a description of a circuit into a schematic with real, purchasable parts, then carries the same design through PCB layout, checks and manufacturing files.
The Resin team4 min read
Designing a circuit board still takes weeks of expert work. Engineers read datasheets to vet every part, draw symbols and footprints to match them, wire the schematic pin by pin, then place and route every trace on the board. Most of that time goes to careful, repetitive work rather than to the design decisions that make a product good.
Resin is an electronics design workspace with AI built in. Describe what you want to build, and Resin drafts a schematic with real parts you can buy. Then keep working on the same design: lay out the board, run electrical and design rule checks, and export the files a fab needs, all in the browser.
From a description to a schematic
Start with a sentence such as “a USB to CAN interface”. Resin asks about anything important you left out, proposes a few architectures with block diagrams, and then searches for components. It reads the datasheets for the parts it chooses and cites the pages behind each fact, so you can check the reasoning instead of trusting it.
When a part has no symbol or footprint in your library, Resin generates one from the datasheet. The schematic it draws uses those parts, with the nets connected and the sheet laid out for a person to read.
A complete editor, not a demo
Everything Resin AI produces is an ordinary design you keep editing by hand. Resin includes:
- Schematic and PCB editors, with routing, 3D inspection and project libraries.
- Electrical rule checks (ERC) and design rule checks (DRC) as you work.
- Bill of materials management with real distributor part numbers.
- Manufacturing outputs: Gerber, drill, BOM, pick-and-place, ODB++, IPC-2581 and STEP.
- Version history, comments, design reviews and real-time collaboration for teams.
Every AI change is an edit you can undo, and you can design without AI at all. See the product tour for each part of the workflow.
Bring your designs, take them with you
Import KiCad and Altium projects, including Altium Designer, CircuitMaker and CircuitStudio, and keep working on them in Resin. Export editable KiCad or Altium projects whenever you like. Your designs stay yours.
Board layout with Resin AI
Ask Resin to lay out the board from the chat. It proposes a plan for you to approve, places the parts and routes the board, then runs design rule checks on the result. Layout is in beta. Parts you lock stay where you put them, a finished run can be reverted in one step, and you review and finish the board in the editor like any other layout.
Works with your AI agents
Resin also connects to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients, so an agent you already use can read your projects, search for parts, run checks and ask Resin to make changes. The MCP guide shows how to connect one.
Try it on your next board
Resin is backed by Y Combinator. Every new account starts with a free seven-day Pro trial, no card required. Start with a description, or open an existing design, and tell us what you think. You’ll be talking to the engineers who build Resin.
